Narrating how President Barrow and the UDP leader split, the UDP’s Busumbala Constituency Chairman, Kebba Kinteh, blamed the situation on presidential advisors.

“The Presidential Advisors and NPP URR Chairman misled the President into believing the UDP were his enemies. Be rest assured, President Barrow can only salvage Gambia under UDP leadership, nothing more or less,” he charged.

He challenged the president to come back to UDP if he is really interested in the affairs of the state and ought to know UDP are not his enemies.

“The President should disregard the advice of his aides and make a comeback to his original home. It’s only with UDP that he can salvage this country,”   the chairma stated.

The UDP leader recounted how bad blood was brought between him and his party founding chairmen on the pretext that he did not want those people to benefit from the government.

“Anyone with his mind will know that I will not interfere in such a situation. All I want is the best for the country, and with his consent, I will support a system that works against its own people,” he stated.

The administrative secretary of the party tasked the newly defected members with bringing back the people they took to the NPP, arguing the mission should be accomplished.

“NPP is a breakaway from the UDP, but they disregarded the very people who formed their party. Today, people who struggled to establish the NPP are treated like guesses in their own party. This is unfair to them,” Darboe said.
UDP won more against the ruling NPP in Busumbala constituency, despite Sabally’s earlier assertion that he would restore the party’s popularity in the constituency.
