In the wake of Mr. Momodou Sabally’s departure from UDP to join the ruling NPP, the United Democratic Party has named Karafa Sonko as its new campaign manager. Sabally’s unique political strategies played a significant role in the opposition party’s success in both the National Assembly and Local government elections, making his departure a notable loss for UDP.

The selection process for the campaign manager saw two main contenders, Karafa Sonko and Pa Manneh. Sonko, credited for managing the current President’s 2016 campaign during his superior Fakebba Colley’s incarceration, emerged victorious after a party congress in Janjanbureh.

While many congratulate Sonko on his appointment, questions arise about whether he can replicate Sabally’s success. Sabally’s tenure significantly strengthened UDP’s presence across the country, and his departure to the ruling party poses a potential threat to UDP’s upcoming campaign.

As the UDP gears up for the Presidential election in two years, the party expresses confidence in winning against President Barrow. Can Sonko employ the same effective strategies and tactics as his predecessor? Replicating Sabally’s legacy may be a challenging task for Sonko, considering the differences in their status and influence. With Sabally now aligned with the ruling party, there are doubts about whether Sonko can neutralize Sabally’s impact in the political arena.”
