Barely two days after assuming his role as the new Special Presidential Adviser, Mr Momodou Sabally disclosed to a local radio how he intends to approach his new job.

The appointment of Mr Sabally by the Gambian leader as his Special Adviser was widely welcomed with many anticipating for change in the trajectory of governance in the country.

Mr Sabally has a wealth of experience in governance considering the high level position he mounted before this current one.

During an interview with King Fm radio, Mr Sabally told the medium that he will work towards enhancing and fostering relations between the government and opposition but was quick to add that the President has already set the pace.

“Even before my appointment, President Barrow has convened a national dialogue geared toward unity and national development. I will continue with this pace to foster and maintain good relationship with the opposition for the progress of the nation. All the opposition want for the Gambia is to progress; and so does the President. Therefore, our political differences should not divide us. I intend to enhance this relationship for the common good” he stated.

Mr Sabally, a former State Broadcaster DG further assured the media of harmonious relationship with the government emphasizing the importance of this fourth arm of government.

Speaking on his role to the President, Sabally promised to advise the President on the best interest of the country; but argued that it is the President’s prerogative to accept his advice or otherwise .

“I have a defined TOR but that does not necessarily mean it’s an obligation for the President to accept all my advice. He puts me in a position of privilege to advise him; but it is not obligatory for the President to accept, at all times, the advice coming from me. However, I am hopeful that the interest of the nation will take precedence over everything else; since the President wants the best for this country.” he charged.

President Barrow surprised the nation in a cabinet reshuffle by appointing, Mr Momodou Sabally as his new Special Adviser after the latter joined his party end of last year.
