The heavy-handed defeats of the Pastef President elect against Macky Sall’s handpicked candidate during Senegal’s Sunday poll sent a jubilant mood in the country with some insisting the Gambian leader, President Barrow will face a similar fate in the next election.

In his congratulatory message to the new Senegalese President, the Chairman of Brikama Area Council expressed delight over his victory but took time to unapologetically criticise President Barrow over his conduct against the country’s opposition.

In a facebook post, Chairman Darboe wrote: “Mighty congratulations to you my beloved people of Senegal for the democratic gains registered yesterday in ushering in a new era and leadership under President Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko! It has once again proven that Senegal’s long history of democracy and adherence to those principles.

It further serves as a reminder to all that only God’s reign lasts forever!

Today is Macky Sall tomorrow it will be his son at the State House of the Gambia, Adama Barrow, whether he likes it or not, his era will also comes to an end. He thus must understand that power does not last forever and the people he continues to persecute will one day become his masters! If anything to learn from the Macky/Sonko story is that inevitability!

To the new leadership of Senegal 🇸🇳, President Diomaye Faye and Ousmane Sonko, we congratulate you and wish you a successful tenure. We pray that you succeed in your quest to strengthen Senegal’s sovereignty, independence and democracy. You have decried your detest against the unwanted interference of foreign forces into your nation’s sovereignty and democracy.

We seek that you extend that detest against the interference of your own country’s men and women’s interference into the sovereignty of other nations. We beseech that you decry and detest Senegal’s interference into the Gambia’s sovereignty, independence and democracy. As a result, we request that you withdraw all of the Senegalese forces stationed in our country at our State House and other places of our country.

We have heard your condemnation of mercenary voters based in Gambia ferrying in buses to vote in your country’s elections, we implore that you enshrined it into your laws to ban all your citizens from doing the same in the Gambia, and prevail on the Gambia and your neighbouring countries to follow suit and prevent such unwanted interference into the democratic processes of our nations.

The above mentioned challenges facing our sovereignties and democracies are the terrible legacies of your soon to be former President of Senegal President Macky Sall, which we hope the traditional local broom given to President Diomaye Faye will sweep them from our polite, as we hope it will succeed in Senegal”.

Chairman Darboe’s comment did not go down well with ruling NPP’s Communication Secretary who deemed his remarks as irresponsible and disrespectful to the President, Adama Barrow.

In a strong rebuttal, Mr Sulayman Camara, NPP Communication Secretary reacted: “While extending our congratulations to the newly elected President of Senegal, it’s disappointing to note the disparaging remarks aimed at our President by Chairman of Brikama area council, when he was conveying his congratulatory message to the the President elect Faye. His criticisms and castigation of President Adama Barrow are both disrespectful and unfounded. Such behavior towards the President only serves to sow a seed of discord.

Contrary to him painting His Excellencey The President Barrow as a tyrant is baseless and false. The president has recently been recognised and awarded as one of the most peaceful presidents on the African continent, is a clear testament to his commitment to stability and good governance. His legacy will be judged on his adherence to the rule of law and democratic principles, not baseless accusations. As Winston Churchill, the great British Prime Minister, once said, “jaw jaw is better than war war.” It is through dialogue and cooperation that we can resolve our differences and move forward as a united nation.

I urge the chairman of Brikama area council to refrain from treating His Excellencey The President with utter contempt and disdain. The chairman of Brikama area council should instead focus on constructive engagement and how to provide the very basic things for the people of Brikama area council Let us work together towards a future of peace, prosperity, and unity, not to be starting a fight in an empty building. The great people of Brikama area council does not deserve such personality”.

Earlier, the Gambian leader congratulated the President elect of Senegal; however, his message was greeted with criticism and accusations of siding with incumbent President, Macky Sall against Pastef and opposition figure, Ousman Sonko at the detriment of Senegalese people.
