Top controversial Imam and scholar, Imam Ba-Kawsu Fofana has weighed into FGM/C that refused to be cease in the country despite the bill’s second reading success.
Speaking an in an audio message, Imam Fofana said female circumcision is in four folds insisting that three out of the four are all bad.
“Normally, the kind of female circumcision practiced in the country is deep cut. If you happened to be a circumciser and you are doing the deep cut, you practicing something against the teachings of Islam. The prophet teaches us to do a slide cut not deep. If you look at our people, most of the women are deeply cut and that’s not the way it should be done” Imam Fofana said.
He challenged doubters to watch videos of women who have undergone the process so as acquaint themselves about how some carryout the process.
“Imam Fatty and Co. should go back to their initial preaching of telling female circumcisers to do as the prophet said and to avoid anything in the contrary. If women circumcisers are found wanting of the deep cut, noisy will emerge and that’s the situation we are” he stated.
Imam Fofana argued the Supreme Islamic Council to put former outspoken StateHouse to order arguing that he should not be on the street arguing with others over FGM/C.
“Islam is here to stay and provocation of any type should not be condone. Imam Fatty cannot be on the street arguing about the practice. Trouble is sleeping and no one should wake it up. Gambia is suspended in the air and no one should be the cause to set this country on flames” Fofana added.
He tells women circumcisers not to be confrontational in their approach together with Imam Fatty but rather, use diplomacy to handle the situation.
“FGM/C is part and parcel of Islam and those telling you is not Islamic are making an affront to the religious. It’s permissible but it’s way of execution should be revisited to avoid the deep cut that’s not what the prophet teaches us” imam charged.
