In the wake of his controversial stance on the anti-FGM repeal bill, Gambians are cautioning Deputy Speaker Njie against making reckless statements on moral issues.

Sulayman Dampha, a resident of Bundung, expressed dismay over Hon Njie’s role in opposing the repeal bill, stating that NPP parliamentarians, including Njie, took a lead that seemed contradictory to their previous accusations of political motives against the ‘Women Right Matters’ group. Dampha criticized Njie for being morally bankrupt in the eyes of the Gambian people and questioned his credibility to speak on issues of national importance.

Dampha accused Hon Njie of consistently frustrating the efforts of the majority on complex national issues, referring to Njie’s alleged attempt to subvert the will of the Gambian people in 2016. He highlighted the predominantly Muslim nature of the country and its highly cultured values, expressing disappointment that Njie sought to undermine the desire to repeal a law deemed detrimental to the interests of the people.

Furthermore, Dampha pointed out pressing issues such as water scarcity and inadequate medical supplies in GBA hospitals, challenging advocacy groups on why they appeared to be overlooking these concerns. He urged Njie to refrain from engaging in moral discussions and instead focus on serving his constituents effectively.

Dampha emphasized the need for responsible and morally upright leaders during critical times, condemning Njie’s alleged tendency to trivialize national matters for political gain. He urged against entertaining such behavior, stating that those who value the sovereignty and self-rule of the country remain committed to these principles despite any efforts to align with Western ideologies.

In conclusion, Dampha underscored the importance of prioritizing national interests over personal or political agendas, calling for leaders who uphold moral standards and work towards the betterment of the Gambian people.
