The National Assembly member for Old Yundum Constituency, Hon Abdoulie Ceesay who has been in the forefront of against repealing the Anti-FGM law picked on former StateHouse Imam, Abdoulie Fatty.

Imam Abdoulie Fatty famous for his unapologetic stance on female circumcision was earlier seen at parliament together with his comrades to reaffirmed their commitment to the lifting of ban of female circumcision in the country.

Unhappy with their presence at the Assembly, the Old Yundum Constituency parliamentarian turned to his social media handler to criticize Imam Fatty and his colleagues.

In a social media post, Hon Ceesay wrote: “”Someone should listen to Imam Fatty…. The
man thinks he owns the Gambia. I maintain that FGM/C law remains a law to protect our
girls.”

Unhappy with his comments, a member of his constituency said, Hon Ceesay should be the last person to advocate for women and children rights in this country.

“When did we came to know about those rights? A parliamentarians whose constituency is battling with inadequate water supply which forces women to leave their beds at ungodly hours to fetch water couple with the suffering children endured at their schools for the reckless garbage dumping. Currently, the road linking Tabokoto to road coast is in terrible shape. A NAM with all these problems before his eyes should not be busy advocating for a right that bears little or no impact in the society. Imam Fatty and Co. are right that the ban should be lifted to be a matter of choice. Hon Ceesay lacks the moral authority to talk about the former if he truly loves democracy” he stated.

He argued it’s mind-boggling to see some of these Parliamentarians allowing them to be dribbled by the west and seemingly accepting them to be enslaved again through malicious propaganda.

“This is not a situation of NPP versus opposition rather, it’s Gambians versus their parliamentarians. Why wasting time on this last term parliamentarian? Hon Ceesay is truly undemocratic and his attitude exposed his unethical leadership credentials. Am very sure he do not engaged his constituent about the subject at hand but waffling for self-aggrandizement and recognition of the west. The west do not own this country and the powers are vested with citizenry to dictate how we should be govern. Our autonomy lies in our hand and the west should take neutral in our internal matters” he stressed.
