Hon Abdou Sowe of Kombo East Constituency, who parted ways with his party, UDP, recently citing public interest has accused his former party of betrayal and restricting his rights of association.

Hon Sowe made these remarks 48 hours after his resignation from UDP.

The embattled Parliamentarian has declared his support from the ruling party, NPP arguing that he made the decision based on the interest of his constituency.

“As I join NPP today, I will want to make it clear that the reasons that triggered my resignation from UDP, I will not accept that from NPP too. These reasons among others is someone sitting down at pipeline telling me what’s good for Kombo East and restricting me from exercising my inclusive political approach. I am not here to impress the people in pipeline but rather, Kombo East and no one will tell me how to carry out my functions here; as it’s my own constituency” He stated.

Sowe argued that he joined the ruling party to attract development for his constituency from the central government; in return, he too will mobilize support for the party in the localities.

“If it’s betrayal, I have not betrayed anyone. In-fact, it’s the UDP who betrayed me. If they do not know how I won the parliamentary seat in this constituency, I ( myself) do and no amount of insults will trigger me to shift my position. I am no one’s slave and I joined the President for development. We have villages in my constituency who are struggling with roads, the person with authority to provide such necessity is the President. Why wont I join him to tap from that opportunity for my people to benefit” he asked.

He argued that the issue with UDP is that they respect every other elective position in the country except Barrow’s presidency.

“If I should tell them I am a parliamentarian, they will wholeheartedly accept my words. However, if I tell them President Barrow is the President of the country, they will say I am lying. What kind of system is that? I went to Europe and I came with a hospital project but I was told I should meet the President to make it possible. I have something for myself and all I am looking for currently is for my people to benefit and live decent lives.

Joining the President will bring that goal and I will not be subject of abuse for seeing my President since am with him” Hon Sowe asserted.

He further argued that contesting for UDP in the election was not a complete comfort for him stating that he knew he would not last with them.

Earlier, Sowe flatly denied meeting the President for political reasons but time has proven him wrong. While UDP accepted his resignation, their militants argued they were not surprised with his decision arguing that all traitors in the party will leave before 2026.
