Mr Madi Jobarteh, top human rights activist and commentator said; “I hereby declare my total support to The Gambia Transport Union on their sit-down strike. High fuel cost, checkpoints & unreasonable restrictions on the roads do not affect taxis alone but also commuters suffer even more” Jobarteh asserted.

“What is your stand on the endless breakdown of fares? Serre Kunda – Latri Kunda, Latri kunda- Lamin and Lamin – Farato to Brikama?
Our problem as a nation is never our presidents but us as Gambians. We need to change our attitudes toward the common good of our nation” Pa Humble Badjie blasted drivers.

Another commentator also added his voice; “‘Tonyakesso’, Madi all this endless transport increment its the government’s fault.
We really needed to regulate the fuel prices around the nation with permanent policies”.

Musa Njie joined the debate saying “ If they reduced the pump prices, will GTU also reduce fares? You (GTU) always championing the affairs of your members however, your members are recklessly killing their customers (passengers). Remember, Passengers life matters too.

He said arbitrary charging of fares by drivers during rush hours is unethical.
