Firebrand politician and ruling NPP stalwart, Momodou Sabally, has vowed to restore the ruling party’s popularity in Busumbala Constituency after the former’s dramatic defeats at the hands of the opposition UDP in both parliamentary and local government elections.

Speaking in an audio message, Mr. Sabally said he was among the people who vigorously campaigned against the ruling party in both the National Assembly and local government elections to give the UDP a hand over the ruling party; hence, he was referred to as the greatest of all time in the party at the time.

“The hand that tied the lion, it’s the same hand that will untie it. Among other reasons why people voted for the UDP in this constituency was out of love for me after my parliamentary bid was aborted by the IEC. Most of the people who voted for the opposition candidates in Busumbala constituency did it out of love for me and to express solidarity with me, not their candidates’ charisma,” he stated.

He argued that he would sanitise the constituency by restoring the NPP’s popularity in the area, insisting that most people regretted voting for the opposition in the locality.

“NPP will bounce back in Busumbala constituency and maintain its presidential record in the area. During my time with the opposition, I always claimed that President Barrow was unpopular among Gambians. However, after joining the ruling NPP, I knew the president was popular, and a lot of Gambians still love him to their hearts,” he charged.

Sabally stressed that the NPP will dominate the political scene with power, arguing that all they need is commitment and togetherness to propel the interests of the party.

“After my parliamentary rejection, most of the people voted for my former party candidates out of love and solidarity for me. Now that I am with the ruling party, those votes will go into the right boxes,” he promised.

While the opposition UDP is optimistic of upsetting President Barrow at the next presidential election, Sabally, the UDP’s former campaign manager, is confident of using his influence in politics to deny his former party the opportunity and boost people’s confidence in the ruling party to maintain the president’s desired continuity of maintaining an NPP government after his departure.
