In a debate that appears to be unraveling, Mayor Lowe has again pledged loyalty to her party but insisted that no one can distance her from the Gambian leader.
In an interview with Star Fm radio, The BCC Mayor told the medium that there are people who are working to overthrow the UDP leader, Ousainou Darboe and she refused to be part of them arguing, Darboe is her leader.
Her position on UDP’s flag bearer selection came barely a week after defeated party campaign manager contestant, Pa Manneh took to his social media handle saying: “Am 100% UDP loyalist.Therefore, I will never join any camp that is undermining the party’s principles and its leadership. And my job is to expose anyone intending to play that game.It is completely clear that Ousainou Darboe will contest for 2026 Presidential elections. Anyone not comfortable with this decision. Please Form your own Party, let’s meet at the polls”.
Mayor Lowe alleged that the cohort planning to overthrow Darboe are doing everything within their means to bring bad-blood between her and UDP members.
“Commentators within the UDP are now scared of mentioning my name due to the unsubstantiated allegations they have been making against my personality that i am with the President. This cohort within the party are planning to overthrow Darboe and they branding me bad in the eyes of the UDP members because they think i am an obstacle to their dubious plans. Darboe is my leader and flag-bearer and no one can force me out of UDP because those on this subversive mission found me in the party” she claimed.
Lowe further stated that she is not NPP but will not hesitate to meet the President anytime she needs his services for obvious reasons.
“I am not in the same party with the President but that will not deter me from meeting him anytime I need his support. Those describing meeting the President as disloyalty to the party are the very ones found wanting, and of sneaking into the StateHouse. After the Presidential election, some members of our executives have been in hibernation and excused themselves from UDP activities. Can such a person preach me about loyalty to the party” the UDP only Female Mayor asked.
She added that she excuses herself from attending lot of UDP activities due to the smear they doing against her because they felt threatened about her presence in the party and their plan of overthrowing Darboe.
“I will meet President Barrow for my needs yet, I am UDP and no one can force me out of the party. Darboe is my leader and flag-bearer and I am aware of the plan launched to overthrow him but it will not happen under my watch” She charged.
The opposition UDP has numerous people all aspiring to succeed Darboe who is yet to disclose his future political ambition but emphatically dispelled rumors that he is unfit for presidency.
While Mayor failed to named the cohort planning to overthrow Darboe, the KMC Mayor, Bensouda is often accused of being in the lead to succeed Darboe and critics attributed his recent nationwide tour to that ambition.
