Top controversial scholar Ba Kawsu Fofana cautions his group members to refrain from being associated with the “Sunnis”, a group he has always been in controversy with.
According to him, this group has been condemning his ways without actually justifying them.
The top “Majlis” Imam made these remarks in his weekly sermon delivered on Friday September 30, 2022. In an audio obtained by this medium, the Imam told his congregation that the “Sunni” group keeps on insisting over and over again, about how he engages in innovation and other actions that they do not approve of. He said it is about time they moved on to something different because people have had enough of that.
“They [Sunnis] say that “Gamo” is innovation, and they keep on talking about it over and over again. Why don’t you move ahead and speak about something else? For over 10years, you’ve been telling people that “Gamo” is not good. You said it in The Gambia and we have all not died. We’ve heard you. Now tell us what is good instead and move forward. This is how you are different from me. I always talk about new things everyday instead of sticking to one thing forever. I used to talk a lot about women covering up, but I have stopped because the majority of them have started covering up”, he charged.

Imam Fofana accused the group of talking about things they know nothing of. In his opinion, they keep on learning the same things and claim to know so much. He advised them to seek knowledge and not talk about things that are not clear to them.
“You (Sunnis) keep on teaching new books and abandon the old good ones. Do not talk on things you do not know about God because so many things are already clear. The truth is easier to listen to and hear than lies. Instead of stammering during sermons, you should go and learn first. You said you follow the Sunnah but how many Sunnah books have you learned and taught to people? This shows that you only talk without actually acting upon them. God has prevented us from lying about him, so learn in order to know and preach the truth”, the Imam said.
He further warned his group members (Majalis) to stick to the teachings of their forefathers, and ignore those who keep on pushing and pulling (the Sunnis). He advised his people to not have any association with them (the Sunnis), and to avoid listening to and praying with them.
“Someone who preaches the Sunnah and Qur’an without learning one Sunnah or Qur’an book is just a talker. Do not mingle with these people [Sunnis]. Do not listen to their sermons or pray in their mosques because there is no truth to them. Do not let your sons learn with them because they do not teach. Do not even marry your daughters to them. God asked us to not change anything in his religion and to not lie about his prophet, and I will continue telling people to follow their forefathers’ footsteps as long as I live”, Imam Fofana said.
