In his Friday sermon on October 21, Top Islamic Scholar and Imam, Sheikh Chebo Oggo Cham, has called on Gambian to minimize complaining about the hardship in country, arguing that there is only peace in the country. Imam Cham said people should be grateful to Allah for his blessings or else he will withdraw it.

“If I listen to radios, I hear people complaining about the difficulties in the country to an extend you think there is no peace in the country. Let me tell you, there is abundant peace in The Gambia and we should be grateful to Allah”, Sheikh Chebo stated.

“Anytime you ask people about their status, their only response will be about how hard life in the country is, but there is not much hardship in the country. Let us be grateful to Allah and put our hearts together”, he added.

Sheikh Cham said we should come together and develop the nation, and that Gambians should be patient and desist from talking too much. He quoted from a hadith that teaches Muslims to be patient at all times.

“Let us reduce the talking and be patient. In one hadith, the Prophet had a guest and did not have anything to give to his guest. He consulted his wives and they all said there was no food in the house. I bring this Hadith to remind people to be patient and grateful. Who is that bankrupt today in comparative to the Prophet’s situation on that particular day?” the Imam quizzed.

According to statistics, the rate of peoples living below $5.50 dollar per day in the Gambia stands at 72.70% as of 2015.

With the outbreak of Covid-19 and the Ukraine- Russia war impacts, The Gambia’s economy suffered a recession and hyperinflation that is highly affecting the living conditions of consumers.
